Unaker - Processing
I'm trying to get a little more of the white clay processed so that I can make a few items for processing. Also, Annie mentioned the pieces I showed in the blog earlier, wondering how they made it through the kiln
Well, they made it fine. This clay is very high fire so it isn't vitrified at cone 6. I'm almost positive it wouldn't be at cone 10 either without amendments. But it looks good for decorative purposes with the clear glaze. Unfortunately I forgot to take a picture of the bowl before I took it over to Tom. This time I'll actually post of photo of the next finished piece.
Anyway, here is a short video showing how I process the clay:

Great video! I wonder if that clay would make a good trailing slip? I gotta get some of that Unaker! My shovel is ready.
Thanks Michael. So, I guess it's obvious someone got a video camera this weekend!
The good news about the clay is that the mine operators hate it. It's just in their way. So when they dig it up the just set it aside. If your ever going to be near Franklin I'll put you in touch with Tom. Otherwise, if I get up your way I'll drop off a tub of it for you to play around with at least.
Hey Mike,
Thanks for sharing the video and the glaze calculator!
You're welcome Annie. Let me know if the calculator gives you any trouble. It can be slow because of my internet host, but it usually works.
For anyone else listening in, I'm referring to www.glazecalculator.com. It's a site to save/share glaze recipes that also calculates seger unity.
